Happy Anniversary to Me

This week we celebrated our fourth wedding anniversary. It seems as though we have been married forever, what with the familiarity and comfort we have in each other. On the other hand, I still feel as though I'm having one grand affair (which, for the record, I've never had before) and I can't believe my good fortune in it lasting this long!

On our Big Day, mother called and read me a poem she had found in my father's desk drawer. It had been written years before for one of my siblings, but it had never been shared. Mother thought it would be a terrific gift from Daddy to us. It was.

As today you count your blessings
And your hearts are warm and glad,
May you find this anniversary to be
The best you’ve ever had.

It ain’t a day of mourning
A day to gross about
You both could have been married
To some no-good, rotten lout

But God, His face, He made to shine
Upon you two young lovers
Your mom and dad
Know love is great
Especially ‘neath the covers.

Happy Anniversary to Me!!!

This is utterly wonderful. Daddy's blessing is not a small thing. It was apparently meant for you.

P.S. What a hilarious poem! I just read it to my mother-in-law, who's talking with us by phone right now. We all had a good laugh.
